Our Mission. |
To provide for the education and training of individuals involved with the Vermont tourism industry.
|
Our Roots. |
Robert Townsend and Mal Bevins, of University of Vermont Extension, initiated the first Vermont Travel Industry Conference (VTIC) in 1983. The purpose of that half-day session was to provide members of the tourism industry with information and research data available through the University. Seven years later, VTIC gained its non-profit status, becoming VTIC, Inc.
|
What We Do. |
VTIC meets its mandate in two very specific ways. The first is through the annual conference, which is designed every year by a Planning Committee co-chaired by the VTIC Board Chair (volunteer) and the Executive Director (contracted staff position). Membership on this committee is open to all interested parties. Second, VTIC offers scholarship funds to Vermont students and tourism professionals wanting to continue their education by participating in the Conference. The amount and number of awards given each year is predicated upon VTIC’s fiscal resources, the sum of applicants and the nature of their requests.
|
Who Does It. |
The business of VTIC, Inc. is conducted by a volunteer Board of Directors. Each member represents a different sector of the tourism community. Board responsibilities include the general supervision and control of the activities and affairs of VTIC, as well as the final approval of all conference policies. The Board has the option of hiring administrative staff, and currently contracts the services of an Executive Director.
|
How We Do It. |
VTIC activities are underwritten solely by the revenues it generates through the annual conference, sponsorship of that conference, and the Silent Auction.
|
The Annual Summit. |
The Vermont Tourism Summit draws one of the largest gatherings of tourism professionals in the state including owners, managers, and employees of the many businesses connected to this important segment of Vermont's economy. The Summit rotates around the state, making stops in Manchester, Killington, Stowe, and Burlington.
